The Agnostic's Claim

An agnostic claims that there is not enough information to determine whether God exists. The word comes from the root meaning not knowing. Here is the funny thing about agnostics; as soon as you tell them that they are right, they generally get offended. The following story makes the point:

A keen student of human nature gives this definition of an agnostic: "An agnostic is a man who loudly declares that he knows nothing, and gets mad and abuses you if you tell him that you believe him. He says that he doesn't know anything, but really believes he knows everything."
