Evidence of Depravity

Today, a new low for American humanity was reached when a Wal-Mart worker died after being trampled when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors of a Long Island store. The 34-year-old employee, a temporary maintenance worker, tried to hold back the unruly crowds just after the Valley Stream store opened at 5 a.m. What inside that store was worth a life? Materialism and commercialism has revealed the depth of the depravity of man. Only the effective call of the grace of God can reach those dead in sin. We, the church, need to proclaim the doctrines of grace as did the original founders of our nation. The Puritans preached the doctrine of salvation by grace and we must follow their footsteps. This loss of life at Wal-Mart is tragic; if he was not a follower of Jesus Christ, it is even more tragic. Salvation comes only by grace through faith. It is salvation by faith alone but a faith that is not alone. True faith brings holiness in the disciple of Christ. Proclaim the truth today. God is the author of salvation. It is His work not man's work. However, we must also preach that man is responsible to respond to His grace with faith and repentance. This is our message.

Today, America saw a tragedy. May God use that tragedy to reach His people for His glory.
